July in the Dye Farm
The natural dye garden consists of perennials, biennial, and annuals that are used for natural dyeing, ecoprinting, and papermaking. We try to use Minnesota native and drought tolerant plants whenever possible. Using sustainable farming methods, we incorporate natural dye plants into the garden ecosystem by interplanting with compatible plants, and designing for the animals and insects that utilize them as well. Stay tuned as we grow, cultivate, and harvest dye plants this summer!
This season we are growing: Woad, Japanese Indigo, Alkanet, Marigold, Dyer’s Bedstraw, Flax, Madder, Yarrow, Tansy, St. John’s Wort, Weld and more!
